Fusion Jadoo

Jadoo is a North Indian word for traditional Indian magic. This type of magic has been performed for thousands of years and is the oldest performing art in India. Rajas, Nawabs, Mughals and British rulers have all enjoyed their own performances of jadoo. After the age of royal patronage of the magical arts ended, Indian jadoowallas worked their magic in public places. For decades, you could see jadoo performances on the sand of the Chowpatty beach in Mumbai, in the Maharaja's ornate palace in Jaipur, or on a busy street corner in old Delhi. Today, jadoowallas have nearly vanished from India's still bustling streets and markets, and their ancient and mysterious art is vanishing. Young Indian magicians mimic Western magic styles, and the children of the traditional madaris and jadoowallas are not learning their ancestral art or carrying it on.

In an attempt to preserve India's old and most mysterious art for future generations, Shreeyash has learned traditional jadoo routines from many of India's oldest jadoowallas. As his son grows up, he will teach these to his own son. Since traditional jadoo is meant to be viewed close up and fully surrounded, he will invite a number of audience members on stage to witness many of the jadoo demonstrations. To make the routines appeal to Western audiences, Shreeyash is blending traditional Indian jadoo with the best magic of the West into an intimate, exotic and enchanting show full of miracles, mirth and a hint of danger. He calls this style fusion jadoo (c), an entertaining melange of the magical flavours and styles of East and West. Come, spend an evening enjoying Jadoo: an intimate evening of Indian-inspired illusions. Coming soon to a theater near you.
